Do you remember what you were doing at 10-years-old? Well, whatever it was, we are almost positive that Mikey Wren has you beat. Not even out of elementary school this 10-year-old is already an entrepreneur and best-selling author, proving that you are never too young to let your light shine bright!
With a sweet tooth and ambition to match, Wren thought that the ultimate business for him would be to start his own vending machine company. “For him, to first come to us with the idea that he wanted a vending machine, I was like uh okay we will see where this go,” his step-father James Biggs said in an interview with Five On Your Side’s Ray Strickland. “He is interested in one thing then the next week it’s something else.”
Well, apparently this stuck and Wren is now the owner of not one but four vending machines, using his love of candy to fuel “Mikey’s Munchies”. Yet, Wren knew that his dream would not happen overnight and he had to create a business plan and come up with the money to fund his business. By setting up a lemonade stand, Wren was able to raise the funds needed to take his dream to the next level.
Mentor Andy Hayes, president of American Vending Machines, said that his young mentee has a bright future ahead of him in business. “[He asks], so many good, intuitive questions about the vending business, from product cost and everything,” Hayes said in the same interview. “I don’t get grown men asking me that.”
In addition to his business ventures, Wren has also penned a book, Mikey Learns About Business to help other children learn about business. “I want to be that role model that’s going to help them succeed in life,” Wren said.
And we have no doubt that he will! Mikey, you are already a role model and we look forward to following the bright future that is ahead!
