Ciara doesn’t want to miss a second with her kids, but she also wants to continue pursuing her goals as an entertainer. The celebrity mom tells Forbes how she balances career ambitions with her life as a mom.
“There are many challenges of motherhood,” Ciara exclaims. “But balance is probably the greatest challenge because I’m very ambitious and determined to achieve my goals, and that takes a lot of work in itself. And then the job of being a mom is a whole different animal, too. I love being there with my kids, I don’t want to miss out on anything, and so I’m constantly thinking, how do I balance it all out? Because both things require full attention and effort.”
Family is key to Ciara accomplishing her goals both at home and work. “Family support is huge,” the mother of two explains. “Having the go-to’s, like when your kids just don’t want to let you do what you’re trying to do, having something for them to play with is key.”
Of course, self-reliance is also a big deal when you’re traveling the road as a recording artist while married to one of the most popular quarterbacks in the NFL at present.
“Before you hit the ground running, you have to think through the details and map out your day, especially if you and your partner are both on the go,” Ciara tells Forbes. “It’s about putting together the best system and schedule that can allow me to be content in both areas. You never know what it’s like until you have kids, especially when you’re a driven person and you’re so used to focusing on work, work, work. What I’ve learned is that when things are right at home, with your kids and family, that’s where it all starts, and then everything else will fall in place.”

Things falling into place means that Ciara has more time to devote to charities. The singer recently chose to partner with Pandora for an unforgettable visit to the Children’s Bureau.
“I know what it’s like to be a mom, and I can only imagine what it’s like when you don’t even have the support you need to do the basic things in life,” Ciara says of her recent charity efforts. “To know there’s an organization like the Children’s Bureau that’s focusing on those moms and kids in underprivileged communities, it’s really special. When you have moments like that, you say, this is what it’s about — using your platform to go and touch people. It was really about celebrating the moms and the kids.”
