WILLOW SMITH ADMITS TO CUTTING HERSELF AFTER ‘WHIP MY HAIR’ SUCCESS

"I Totally Lost My Sanity For A Moment There"

We were not ready for this. Of course, we expected the Red Table Talk with Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Jones to be revealing. We, however, did not think that the ladies would be willing to put so much on the table. Willow, particularly, shocked us this week with her revelation of cutting after her song, ‘Whip My Hair,’ became a hit.

“It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?’” Willow went on to say, “After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album. And I was like, ‘I’m not gonna do that.’ And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself.”

What is so revealing about Willow’s admission is not necessarily the fact that she began cutting herself. After all, anyone who has ever been a teenager has experienced low moments while trying to find their voice in the world. Willow, however, was not a teenager when ‘Whip My Hair’ made its debut. She was only 10-years-old.

Jada Pinkett-Smith was as shocked as others who heard Willow’s story. “What,” the celebrity mom asked. “When were you cutting yourself,” Jada further questioned. “I didn’t see that part. Cutting yourself where?”

Willow answered her mom’s inquiries by showing her a few spots where she cut her skin. “On my wrist. I mean, you can’t even see it but there’s still a little something there,” the young star explained. “[I] totally lost my sanity for a moment there. I never talk about it because it was such a short weird point in my life. But you have to pull yourself out of it.”

We are so glad that Willow pulled herself out and is in a much better place now. Catch Red Table Talk every week via Facebook!
