JILLIAN MICHAELS ‘FREAKED OUT’ WHEN HER DAUGHTER SAID HOMOSEXUALITY WAS ‘GROSS’

"I've Had Many Parenting Moments I'm Not Overwhelmingly Proud Of"

If someone were to write an effective book about parenting, we think that the majority, if not all, moms and dads would buy it. The truth is that no child is the same and the circumstances regarding family dynamics are certainly different for every household.

Such is the reason why Jillian Michaels’ reaction to her daughter, Lukensia, expressing her belief of homosexuality being “gross” is not something that we’re calling into question or deeming a hot topic. Jillian, who is presently in a same-sex relationship with Heidi Rhoades, tells media that she is not proud of her reaction to Lukensia’s opinion regarding homosexuality.

“I’ve had many parenting moments I’m not overwhelmingly proud of,” Jillian explains. “But I think the one that was the most significant was, one evening when my daughter was, maybe six [years old], and she said to me that she thought that gay people were gross, or gay was gross, and I freaked out.”

Michaels goes on to say, “When people talk about parenting being hard, really, I don’t find that it’s all the ‘sleepless nights,’ and oh, you know, the poopy diapers. It’s these kinds of moments that really just bring you face to face with all of your deep dark issues, where, you know you don’t handle it well. I really wish I had handled it differently in the moment.”

It was in 2010 that Jillian Michaels came out as bisexual. “Let’s just say I believe in healthy love,” she shared with media. “If I fall in love with a woman, that’s awesome. If I fall in love with a man, that’s awesome. As long as you fall in love… it’s like organic food. I only eat healthy food, and I only want healthy love!”

The personal trainer circled back around to her sexuality during a 2014 interview with Health magazine. “The gay thing has always been hard for me,” Jillian admitted. “When Heidi and I are out and somebody older asks, ‘Are you sisters?’ I say, ‘We’re friends.’ I guess it comes from thinking that they will be shocked or disturbed. Look, I wish I had some strapping football player husband. It would be such a dream to be ‘normal’ like that, but I’m just not.”

Heidi gave birth to her and Jillian Michaels’ son, Phoenix in 2012, which was just two weeks before the couple adopted their daughter from Haiti. Stay tuned for more celebrity mom news!
