“When I met Will, he had a son. My entry point to motherhood was co-mothering with Will’s ex-wife, Sheree. And this is the first time I’m sitting down to talk about our journey.” We learned so much from Jada Pinkett-Smith and Sheree Fletcher’s latest interview for Red Table Talk. Not to our surprise, there was tension between the women after Will and Sheree divorced and Jada became a bonus mom to young Trey. What was shocking, though, is the level of intensity that Jada and Sheree worked through to come out on the winning side. We had no idea! Check out these four things that we learned from the most recent episode of Red Table Talk below!
Jada absolutely checked Sheree during the growing years
“Very few times in my life, I can recall being checked real hard where I didn’t have nothing to say,” Sheree revealed to Jada. “You did that,” she added. “You picked up the phone, and I wasn’t really respectful. Trey was at the house. So I’m calling to talk to Trey, but I had to go through you to get to him. You answered the phone. So you basically let me know, ‘I don’t really appreciate your tone.’ And I was like, ‘It don’t matter.’ And you hung up on me. Girl! I called back and I happened to say, ‘B*tch! You’re living in a house I picked out.’ You said, ‘It’s my house now.'”
Sheree didn’t think that introducing Trey to Jada was wise, but her son changed her perspective on things
“The most difficult part was the week he told me he was introducing you to Trey,” Fletcher explained. “And I said, ‘No. I don’t think that’s a good idea.’ And he was like, ‘Well, it’s happening.’ So Trey comes home and I say, ‘How did you like Mrs. Jada?’ He said, ‘I really liked her, mommy.’ He comes and says, ‘I want to get her a present.’ And he wanted to get you a little candle. That was a turning point because I did see your heart with Trey. I did see that you loved this kid. You really did! And I saw a woman who was doing the very best she could.”
The pain of divorce from Will still cuts deep with Sheree
“I chose to walk away from the marriage. That’s a choice that I made,” Sheree shared with Jada. “And even to this day, thinking that I broke up a family. I didn’t give Trey what I wanted for him. I didn’t give him what he needed. I didn’t give him what his brother and sister have. That’s hard. But, you know, that’s what I have to live with. And that broke me down. It still hurts.”
Jada dropped a complete bombshell of wisdom for us all
“Expectations will steal the gifts that are sitting right there in front of you because you can’t see them,” Jada said near the end of the episode. “You’re so concerned about creating this picture that you have in your mind that you can’t even see the blessing that is standing right there in front of you.”
