Serena Williams is not having it. The celebrity mom stopped by The View earlier this week to talk about her life as a mom and rendered a stern warning to those who may want to body shame her daughter, Alexis Olympia, in the future.
“I’ve been body shamed, basically, since I’ve been in the public eye,” Serena revealed. “I liked how I looked until I got in the public eye, and then it became this different conversation. … Suddenly, I didn’t like who I was.” The tennis star went on to say, “As I got older, I understood that this is me. I love who I am. I love how I look, and my body is creating all of these opportunities for me. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It took me a while to get there.”

It took Serena a while to feel comfortable in her own skin because of critics who found fault in her curves. The star athlete is not willing to stand by and watch her daughter endure the same pain. “Looking at my daughter, and looking at my mom and how she went through the negative [comments about] myself and my body, I don’t know how she did it,” Serena told the ladies of The View. “If anyone were to say anything about Olympia, like, I’d take my tennis racket [and say], ‘Let’s talk now,'” Williams mused.
Serena wrote an open note to her mom shortly after giving birth to little Alexis Olympia last year. “Dear Mom,” the tennis star said. “You are one of the strongest women I know. I was looking at my daughter (OMG, yes, I have a daughter) and she has my arms and legs! My exact same strong, muscular, powerful, sensational arms and body. I don’t know how I would react if she has to go through what I’ve gone through since I was a 15-years-old and even to this day.”
Alexis Olympia is Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian’s first child. Stay tuned for more celebrity mom news!
