Serena Williams will return to the tennis court next month. The Grand Slam champion will join her sister and fellow star athletes in competing for Team USA in the Fed Cup tournament.
According to the USTA’s website,
“Serena Williams is set to play her first competitive match in more than a year when Team USA begins the defense of its Fed Cup crown next month.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion joins seven-time major winner Venus Williams and world No. 9 CoCo Vandeweghe on the squad that will face the Netherlands in Asheville, N.C., Feb. 10-11.
U.S. Fed Cup Captain Kathy Rinaldi, who led the team for the first time in 2017 and became the first captain since Marty Riessen in 1986 to win the Fed Cup title in their debut, announced the partial squad for the World Group first-round tie Wednesday.”
A source close to Serena discussed the notion of the tennis star returning to the court shortly after she became a mom last year. Williams did not give an absolute date for her comeback at the time but rather focused on bonding with her and husband Alexis Ohanian’s daughter, Alexis Olympia.
Serena spoke of her life as a mom during a recent interview with Vogue. “Sometimes I get really down and feel like, Man, I can’t do this,” she revealed. “It’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes. I guess that’s just who I am,” she concluded. “No one talks about the low moments—the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry. I’ve broken down I don’t know how many times. Or I’ll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, Why do I feel so sad when I have a beautiful baby? The emotions are insane.”
Insane emotions or not, Serena is a great tennis player and superb mom. Stay tuned for more celebrity baby news!
