Black-ish was the night’s big winner at the 2018 NAACP Image Awards. The cast members of the smash-hit show were the recipients of several trophies at the event on Monday.
Black-ish won the Outstanding Comedy Series early in the evening. Tracee Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson, and the young stars of the show were so excited to be recipients of such honor that they dropped the trophy onstage. No worries, though, as the crew took the moment in stride by using comedy to move forward. That’s why we love Black-ish so much!
The 49th NAACP Image Awards was also a notable evening for Ava DuVernay who was honored as the NAACP Entertainer of the Year. NAACP President Derrick Johnson present the NAACP President’s Award to Danny Glover who has represented the vision of the organization through his excellent work in Hollywood. Several members of the Memphis Sanitation “I Am A Man” Workers group were in attendance at this year’s NAACP Awards. Their presence was especially significant because of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., dying while in Memphis fighting for the rights of sanitation workers in the city. It was added significance that the NAACP Awards ceremony was held on Dr. King’s birthday. Timing is everything!
