Tyrese is going through it. The all-around entertainer took to Instagram to share his heart after media sources revealed the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is investigating him for child abuse.
“One day we’re going to sit down over tea and laugh about how they tried to turn us on each other,” Tyrese wrote to his tween daughter, Shayla. “What they didn’t know is that it only solidified our lifetime #DaddyDaughterBond that will never ever ever be broken,” he added.

The FURIOUS star went on to tell his daughter, “Praying for you everyday angel I love you and I’m holding onto every laugh and every moment……. Love and light…… Watch how your father rose above and stayed centered in the middle of this unexpected storm – A set back is merely a set UP for many many amazing things to come.”
Tyrese also advised his followers to Google “Parenting Alienation” saying, “It’s mind-blowing how accurate this all is.”
According to Psychology Today, Parenting Alienation is the act of undermining the bond of a loving parent with his child by using tactics that present the person in a horrible light. The aim is to convince the child that the loving parent is a sort of deadbeat and, hence, cause the little one to emotionally reject the affectionate party. What’s important to note about Parenting Alienation is that accusations of neglect or abuse are false.
While no one can say with certainty that this tactic is being used in the case of Tyrese and his daughter, the actor’s ex-wife, Norma Mitchell, has managed to obtain a restraining order for her and Shayla after citing instances of abuse. Norma gave quite the vivid description of one instance of maltreatment in court documents that alleged Tyrese, “pinned [the child] face down, put his knees on her back, grabbed her hands with one arm and beat her with the other.” In all, Norma claims that Tyrese harshly spanked their daughter up to 16 times.
All of the accusations have caused the DCFS to take notice. The department’s investigation, however, is reportedly standard procedure in instances where child abuse is alleged.
Shayla is Tyrese and ex-wife Norma Mitchell’s only child. She celebrated her tenth birthday in July.
