The ASCAP honors artists who create music that defines a generation. Jimmy Jam has certainly given his generation a voice with hits that many up-and-coming artists rely on in the present decade.
“When they were in The Time and started working with Janet Jackson in the 1980s, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were the architects of the sound of an era,” ASCAP President Paul Williams says. “Since then, they’ve left their fingerprints on hits in every decade on into the 21st century. We are elated to honor Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis with the ASCAP Voice of Music Award,” he explains.
An ASCAP award is definitely in order as Jimmy Jam has hundreds of records over the past three decades. Sales for Jimmy Jam have exceeded one million over the years. The artist has worked with notables across various genres that include Yolanda Adams, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, and Eric Benet.
