It looks like we are going to be seeing a lot more of Yara Shahidi on primetime as ABC’s sister network, Freeform, has just closed the deal on thirteen episodes of her Black-ish spin-off, College-ish, (working title).
The series will follow the eldest Johnson’s experiences as a contemporary take on current issues facing, not only students, but administrators as well, on today’s college campuses.
“I never thought they’d let me put Black-ish on the air, let alone give me a spin-off,” Kenya Barris, executive producer of Black-ish said in an interview with deadline.com. “I couldn’t be more exited for the opportunity to continue working with Yara and the rest of this talented young cast. To any aspiring writers struggling to make it out there, I highly advise adding an ‘-ish’ to any working title you might have. It seems to be the move.”
If you are an 80’s baby, you may remember that the The Cosby Show, followed a similar trajectory when Denise Huxtable went off on her own to Hillman College and, A Different World was born.
We cannot wait until school is in session. College-ish will premiere in 2018.
