Have you ever been to a little league game with parents who knew more than the coach? How about those moms and dads who spend more than half the competition yelling at their kids from the stands? Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade are “those” parents. The actress tells Steve Harvey why she is such a results-driven parent at her stepchildren’s games.
“What we didn’t anticipate becoming were sports parents,” Union reveals. “[When you handle] the hotels, the food, the friends, the teammates and you’ve traveled, you’ve given up your weekend and you go to this tournament and everyone’s hyped and your child decides they’re not going to give a full effort. Do you understand me and Dwyane lose our minds?”
Going crazy include halftime lectures and expecting perfection out of their kids during the beginning stages of a new sport. “We’re those parent’s who give like halftime lectures in the middle of the game,” Gabrielle says. “Zion is into tumbling,” she adds. “He does gymnastics. I know nothing about gymnastics.”
Even though she knows nothing about gymnastics and Zion understands the basics of the sport, Gabrielle still encourages the teen to have perfect landings during practice. “If I’m going to miss the start of Scandal, you’re going to stick it,” Union jokes.
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade parents four kids together, which includes Dwyane’s nephew. See the actress’ hilarious segment about parenting with Steve Harvey below!
