As the Trump Administration officially took office on January 20th, they have been met with world-wide protests and resistance to their governance. Celebrities from Madonna to Alicia Keys have spoken out in demonstration against the new presidency. Taking the protest to another level is eighteen-year-old actor, advocate, and model Jaden Smith along with his friend Transformers star, Shia LaBeouf.
LaBeouf, who is no stranger to the word of performance art, has staged a four-year, crowd-sourced protest against the Trump Administration next to the Museum of Moving Image in New York City. The piece entitled, HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US (2017), is a 24-hour-a-day live-streaming installation where anyone can stand in front of the camera and say the words, “he will not divide us”.
On Friday morning, Smith, long-time friend of LaBeouf, was the first to take part in the live-streamed art installation protest. Later on during the protest, the oldest son of actors Will and Jada Smith, was joined by a friend, who also began chanting the artwork’s main message along with LaBeouf and collaborators Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner.
