Keion Carpenter has died according to family members who say that the retired NFL player died just 24 hours after collapsing while on vacation.
“It is with regret that we as a family announce that at 6:47 am Keion Eric Carpenter was pronounced dead, at Jackson South Community Hospital in Miami, Florida,” the family said in a statement on Thursday. “Keion collapsed while on a family vacation and remained in a coma for 24 hours. Keion(‘s) remains will be flown back to Baltimore for burial.”
Keion was a proud father and advocate for those less fortunate than himself. The star athlete founded The Carpenter House with the vision of supporting children living in low-income homes. According to the organization’s website,
“The Carpenter House aims to strengthen and empower families from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing access to resources, activities and structured environments that enable them to reach their highest academic and economic potential. We are committed to delivering services that rebuild communities through education, financial literacy, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.”
Keion Carpenter retired from the NFL in 2005. He leaves behind a wife, Tonia Carpenter, and four kids.
