Congratulations are definitely in order for Willow and Jaden Smith as they both have been awarded the New Fashion Icon Award from the British Fashion Council.
Jaden Smith was on hand at the 2016 Fashion Awards in London, England on December 5th to collect the prestigious award for he and his sister. The awards, held this year at Royal Albert Hall, previously known as the British Fashion Awards, were sponsored by Swarovski.
The event celebrating its 27th year of honoring top fashion icons, tapped the two Smith children because of their unique style. Both siblings have made trend-setting benchmarks in the industry, receiving accolades from the likes of Louis Vuitton director Nicolas Ghesquière and Karl Lagerfeld.
“[Jaden] represents a generation that has assimilated the codes of true freedom, one that is free of manifestos and questions about gender,” Ghesquière commented in an interview with E! News. “Wearing a skirt comes as naturally to him as it would to a woman who, long ago, granted herself permission to wear a man’s trench or a tuxedo.”
After becoming a brand ambassador for Chanel, Willow Smith proved that she had just as much fashion-sense as her brother. “Flexibility with yourself and your looks shows self-confidence,” Willow stated in a past interview with Wonderland. And of course, her confident style continues to grow with not only her latest spread in Vogue but with her official title as fashion model after being signed with The Society modeling agency in New York.
This year’s festivities also celebrated designer Ralph Lauren, presenting him with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his global work and dedication to the fashion industry. The event itself was founded with the purpose of serving as a fundraiser for the British Fashion Council’s Education Foundation, providing scholarship money to emerging individuals looking to pursue a career in fashion.
Congratulations Willow and Jaden! We can’t wait to see what style you bring to the new year.
