David Banda took the stage during Madonna’s ‘Evening of Music, Art, Mischief and Performance’ this past weekend. The event was held at Faena Forum in Miami Beach, Florida and raised money for Benefit Raising Malawi.
David, who is a native of Malawi, presented poise while delivering his speech to attendees. “I realize now that I was one of the lucky ones,” he told guests. The tween relayed his mom’s mission to build a pediatric surgery and intensive care unit at Malawi hospital in addition to educating the country’s young people. David, along with his mother, raised more than $7 million for charity as tickets cost anywhere from $5,000-$150,000 each.
Madonna has told media that her family is unique. “I’ve created an unconventional family, and we have discussions at the dinner table about all sorts of things,” the Pop star recently shared with Billboard. “My 11-year-old son [David] can speak eloquently about Malcolm X and Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela and James Baldwin. My daughter Mercy plays the piano and can talk to you about Nina Simone. I’m really proud of that.”
The ‘Material Girl’ singer is also proud to encourage independence in her kids. “When I post their things, they give me permission,” Madonna revealed. “A lot of times they’ll send me pictures and say, ‘Please don’t post this,’ and I won’t. They have private accounts, and I respect that. I also consider my children part of my work and the work that we do together.”
Madonna is the proud mother of four kids. She adopted her daughter, Mercy, and son, David, out of Malawi several years back.
