Bad news for Candace Parker and Shelden Williams. The WNBA star and her husband are headed for divorce court according to a recent story by TMZ.
The media source reports,
“WNBA superstar Candace Parker has just been hit with divorce papers from her husband, a former NBA player, who’s demanding spousal support from the 2016 Finals MVP … According to the divorce docs, Williams says the two separated back in August and are living apart. Now, he wants to officially end their 7-year marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. He’s asking for joint custody of their kid.”
Candace was overcome with emotion a few weeks back after winning her first WNBA title. The star athlete told media that her success was because of her mentor, Pat Summitt, who passed away months prior to the Los Angeles Sparks winning the championship.
“I think all her life lessons come about at different points,” Parker told media during an interview last month. “I hear her words come right out of my mouth.”
Candace plays for the WNBA and overseas in Russia where she is making quite the name for herself while exposing her daughter, Lailaa, to a different culture.
“Overseas it’s definitely a different style of game,” Parker said of action on the court during a recent interview. Off the court, “learning culturally, too” is important. “[Playing overseas] exposed me to a lot of different cultures that I would’ve ordinarily have experienced if I hadn’t gone out there to play,” the star athlete explained.
Candace Parker wed Shelden Williams on November 13, 2008. The estranged couple welcomed their daughter on May 13, 2009. Shelden is asking for spousal support in addition to joint custody of Lailaa.
