Janet took a small break from the spotlight after Michael Jackson passed away in 2009. “Work helps focus all of that energy on something that is of value to you,” she said during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar three months after the King of Pop’s death.

“I always wanted to have my mother’s [Katherine Jackson] strength, but I didn’t know if it was really there,” Janet continued. “Now at least I know that I can step up to the plate and not crumble when I’m needed. When it comes to something like this that is so, so serious, so painful, so traumatic, I can handle it.”

Janet Jackson is the youngest of ten children that Joseph and Katherine Jackson parent. Brandon, twin brother of Marlon, passed away in 1957 shortly after birth. Michael Jackson died in his Holmby Hills home on June 25, 2009. He was the father of three children.

Janet Jackson and her husband, Wissam Al Mana, are expecting their first child to arrive in coming weeks. The couple wed in a private ceremony in 2012.
