Heidi Klum is rearing kids who are empathetic and grateful. The celebrity mom told PEOPLE at the 2016 amfAR Inspiration Gala that she instills traditional values in her sons and daughters.
“We talk every night,” she said. “We have dinner every night at 6 o’clock,” Klum added. “Normally, we do. We cook every night. We sit around the table every night, or for breakfast, [and] for me, that old-fashioned, sitting around and talking about your day I think is very important.”
Heidi is a celebrity who is big on charity and wants her kids to have the same compassion. “They are very heartfelt, [but] of course, they don’t know what it’s like,” Klum said of her kids’ reaction from stories that she shares after her visits to Children’s Hospital “When they’re whining about something, I tell them, like, ‘This is not something to be crying about.'”
Klum went on to tell media that she tells her kids about children who do not have the luxury of health and wellness. “I tell them about the children that I see at the hospital that cannot go home,” she shared. “[I tell them], ‘It’s Christmas and you’re at home. And you have all these presents. And they’re in the hospital and they can’t go anywhere.’ I talk to them about it.”
Although she rears her children in the way of what some would consider traditional, Heidi is by no means a conventional mom. “‘It’s mainly other moms and kids that give you the stink eye a little bit,” the model revealed when asked about her life as a celebrity parent last year. “I’ve been a lingerie model for many, many years and I’ve had so much fun shooting lingerie, being in front of the camera, doing the runway for lingerie,” the star said of her career. “I’ve honestly always preferred that than wearing clothes,” she added.
Heidi Klum and ex-husband Seal parent four kids together. Johan, the former couple’s youngest son, will celebrate his tenth birthday later this month.
