Yara Shahidi—model, actress, and activist—has used social media, specifically Twitter and Instagram to amass a great following, engaging generation Z on social justice issues, making sure that young people realize the importance of letting their voices be heard.
“When you look at the RNC,” begins Shahidi in an interview with Papermag.com, preparing for a photoshoot, fresh from her appearance at the Democratic National Convention, “it’s somewhat terrifying,” she says. “And being a young, black woman with the last name ‘Shahidi,’ it seems as though I am the antithesis of what Trump stands for.”
Shahidi, being half African-American and half Middle Eastern loves the fact that she has the opportunity to work on a show that gives her an avenue to carry-on the difficult conversations after the thirty-minute program is well over. “I think it’s nice that the projects I’m on have given me the platform to continue the conversation and then create my own conversation. It’s been a cool thing to be able to say, ‘This is what my character thinks, but this is what Yara thinks.'”
And we could not agree more! To follow and join in the conversation with Yara, follow her on both Twitter and Instagram. She will definitely take followers on multiple thought- provoking journeys, giving them food-for-thought as we all try and navigate living on this planet together.
