Tatyana Ali is giving fans an inside look at her life as a new mom that include exclusive never-before-seen maternity images. The actress tells ESSENCE all about her plans to enjoy the ride that is parenthood.
“It’s so much fun,” she shares. “You try to get ready, but nothing can really prepare you for what actually goes on and what it’s like.”
Tatyana Ali and her husband, Dr. Vaughn Rasberry, welcomed their son on September 16, 2016. The couple shared their little one’s name, Edward, with fans days later.
“There were so many unexpected twists and turns,” Ali says of her birthing experience. “We had a doula who’s amazing and all of our family there to support us. Our family actually got to the hospital before we did. He’s the first grandbaby for both of our parents, so they were so excited.”
Tatyana was pretty thrilled too as Edward made her a mom for the first time. “I decided to breastfeed solely,” she reveals. Ali admits that the process is “something that is not necessarily instinctive.” The actress has, however, taken the learning experience in stride with her husband by her side.
“He is awesome,” Tatyana says of Dr. Rasberry. “I do feedings; he does diapers. That’s how we tag-team. He’s also kind of doing food too because after birth, the last thing you really want to do is stand in one place and cook. Luckily he’s a really good cook.”
Although she has considered documenting her journey as a first-time parent, Tatyana has opted to keep her personal affairs private. “I think, for now we’re being private about Edward,” she says. “So far I haven’t posted anything or put any pictures up, but there might be a time where I do feel like it when he’s a little bit older.”
