Growing your own fruits and vegetables may sound daunting to many people; however, it is easier than you think and you don’t have to trade in city living to do it. Many people have begun to grow their own produce right in their backyards, realizing that it is not as hard as it seems. Among those that are improving their overall health by growing organic fruits and veges at home, while reducing their global imprint on the earth is singer, actress, songwriter and mommy−Christina Milian.
Crediting her Cuban roots and fondness for healthy eating, the Dip It Low singer is passing on the joys of growing her own organic vegetables to her daughter, six-year-old Violet, from her relationship with her ex, rapper The Dream. “(We) literally go in our yard and… I show her what it’s like to grow our own vegetables,” Milian explains. “There’s a sense of accomplishment when you not only are growing it, but when you eat it. The times that we spend at home are usually spent in the kitchen. Half our conversations have to do with food. So we do have a really great appreciation for nature’s finest.”
Milian’s Afro-Cuban parents taught her how to grow her own healthy food when she was a child, yet the Hollywood starlet admits that not all of her favorite foods are from the garden. “I like salt and vinegar or pickle-flavoured chips, like dill. Oh, so good.”
What’s Milian up to when she’s not gardening or at home in the kitchen? Presently, she is preparing for her upcoming role as Magenta in Fox Television’s live remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Milian is starring in the production along with Laverne Cox, Victoria Justice, Adam Lambert, and Tim Curry. The special will debut in October 2016.
