Jaden Smith was one of many young stars to attend the New York premiere of The Get Down on Thursday at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts. The young star rocked his signature dreadlock ponytail while sporting a jacket embellished with lots of buttons.
The Get Down is Netflix’s way of describing the Hip Hop revolution that took New York by storm during the 1970s. “Particularly our story The Get Down, 1977 is where we start off,” Jaden said during a recent interview. “It’s pretty much all following these kids, fictional kids in the Bronx and it’s telling their story and giving all types of historical facts,” the young star explained.
Baz Luhrmann is at the helm of the series that seeks to tell a story about creativity and overcoming life’s circumstances. “Baz has historically done very visually spectacular projects,” costume designer Jeriana San Juan shared with Los Angeles Times. “Essentially, [the show is] a timeless story of young kids without many resources who create something out of nothing.”
