Holly Robinson Peete was one of many celebrities moved by the Charles Kinsey story. The African American therapist was shot by a Miami police officer last week while trying to calm his patient who was a 26-six-year-old autistic man. Kinsey informed the officer of his client’s condition prior to being shot. Holly Robinson Peete responded to the incident days later.
“This is my RJ,” she wrote in an open letter. “We’d be nowhere without his therapists and caregivers,” she added. “To think one would be shot helping a kid is UNFATHOMABLE. People with autism do not process police cues in the same way that typical kids do. So to know that this gentleman was trying to help this young man process the situation and was still shot is just unacceptable.”

Holly went on to call for action. “Everyone should be LIVID,” she exclaimed. “If you are not then you are part of the problem. We should all be calling for the firing of this police officer. No drawn out investigation. No code of silence. Wrong is wrong. Anyone who would just pull the trigger on this compliant man should not be on the Police Department.”
Holly and her husband, Rodney Peete Sr., had a conversation with their son about police interaction during an episode of their show, For Peete’s Sake. Check out the scene below. Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete have four kids together.
