Leila and Al Roker stopped by the screening of The BFG at Village East Cinema in New York City earlier this week. The celebrity dad and his daughter were in fashion sync as Al wore and pin-striped suit while Leila rocked a striped button-down shirt.
Al and his wife, Deborah, recently released their new book, Been There, Done That, which focuses on parenting. Both Al and Deborah give their perspectives that are vastly different at times. Deborah is more of a protective parent who likes to solve every problem that her kids encounter. Al, on the other hand, is one who believes that children must find their path.
He is also passionate about old-fashioned phone call conversations. “My dad, when I was growing up, he was a bus driver. This was before cell phones. At the end of each run, he’d call Isabel. He’d call my mom,” All told TODAY. “That’s what I watched. That’s what I do. Deborah’s kind of like, ‘I’m working. Leave me alone. Text me.’ I don’t like texting.”
Roker further shared his discontent with texting by telling media what happened when his daughter’s boyfriend asked for permission to take the relationship to the next level. “I got a text from him, this guy, saying that he wanted to talk to me about them moving in together,” Al revealed. “I texted back, ‘Dude, that’s a phone call. Not a text.’ It was all capital [letters] with a few exclamation points.”
Al and Deborah Roker parent two daughters, Courtney and Leila, and a son named Nicholas. Learn more about the couple’s new book here!
