David Otunga is broadening his horizons as a singer. Jennifer Hudson tells Seth Meyers that her son is exploring different genres since seeing Broadway’s production of ‘The Color Purple.’
“He’s now starting to evolve outside of the Michael [Jackson phase],” she says. “He’s been singing ‘The Color Purple’ songs too. So that’s his thing. He runs around the house. He likes singing the songs from [The Color Purple] movie.”
Jennifer goes on to tell Seth that David’s fascination with the classic story has everything to do with Celie. “I think it’s because he’s in love with Celie, the girl who plays Celie,” she shares. “He wants her to be his girlfriend … That’s not going to happen.”
David has been a longstanding Michael Jackson fan. The youngster dressed up like the King of Pop one year, and showed off his moves on Instagram a few months back. It will be interesting to see how the little one further develops his craft as a vocalist as he is clearly following in his mother’s footsteps as an artist.
Little David will celebrate his seventh birthday this summer. He is Jennifer Hudson’s only child with fiance David Otunga.
