It’s been nearly a year since Alicia Keys gave birth to her son, Genesis, and the celebrity mom is showing off her post-pregnancy body while doing something good for charity. Keys joined more than 50,000 runners in the New York City marathon on Sunday to run in honor of her charity, Keep A Child Alive (KCA).
The recording artist finished the 26.2 mile long race in just under six hours and thanked fans for all of the support she received while competing. “We did it,” exclaimed Alicia after the race. “One foot in front of the other was my mantra! The LOVE that was out in NYC TODAY was OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!! Thank you for every scream, every cheer, every piece of good energy you sent my way!!! You helped me so much today!!”
Keys revealed her dietary habits in preparation for the marathon days before running her race. “I’m starting to focus on eating as cleanly as possible, to give my body the best,” shared the singer with media. “I always try to eat pretty clean, but there’s something about running that makes you feel like you can eat anything you want, since you’re burning so many calories – kind of like being pregnant! And that’s exactly the mentality I’m trying to break away from. I’ll probably eat oatmeal the morning of the race, because I want something that will sustain me but won’t be too heavy.”
Egypt Dean, Alicia’s son, was one of many who came out to support his mom in her endeavors. The singer’s husband, Swizz Beatz, was also cheering from the sidelines. Alicia Keys founded Keep A Child Alive with Leigh Blake in 2003. The nonprofit has since provided support to thousands of families affected by HIV/AIDS.
