“We looked for teens from around the world who were doing incredible things in their respective fields,” says Time Senior Editor Dan Macsai of the list. “We didn’t want all actors or athletes or social-media stars.”

Malia has certainly done remarkable things this past year. In addition to traveling the world with her parents, the teen has begun carving out her own way by working on the set of several television shows and visiting a number of colleges. Malia’s most recent visit to Brown university earned special attention as it was her second time stopping by the ivy league school within a year.

Zendaya Coleman and recording artist Silento also made the list. The two young stars have done much to inspire fellow teens as Silento created a song that turned out to be a summer hit. Zendaya became a sort of activist after her hair raising appearance at the Grammy awards. The Kardashian sisters, Kylie and Kendall, topped the list as well for their influence on social media outlets.
