The rumors appear to be true. Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are getting a divorce, according to PEOPLE.com.
The estranged couple announced their divorce publicly on Tuesday, saying in a joint statement, “We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus of what is best for our son.” Martinez is seeking joint custody of their 2-year-old son, Maceo-Robert.
According to a source, one of the reasons that led to the split was “Olivier never loved living in L.A. full time. [He] just isn’t happy in L.A.” Halle and Olivier agreed to move to Europe after tying the knot two years ago. Such plans, however, were placed on hold after a custody hearing between Halle and her daughter’s father, Gabriel Aubry. The courts ordered Berry to remain in Los Angeles for the duration of Nahla’s childhood, which inevitably put the actress’ plans to relocate with her husband on hold for at least ten years.
In addition to having their dream of moving out of the States placed on the back burner, Halle and Olivier’s quality time at home was compromised. “Olivier is complaining that he and Halle are not spending much time together and that she is working too much,” explains a family friend. “He never wanted her to sign on for [CBS’sExtant] and Olivier was hoping they would focus on family time together after Maceo was born.”
Regardless of the reason, or reasons, for separation, it appears that Halle and Olivier are headed for divorce court. Neither one of the primary parties have responded to the above allegations, and neither Halle nor Olivier have confirmed or denied marriage dissolution.
