Rachel Roy believes in the power of creativity and independence, which is why she is spreading her message of freedom through her ‘Self Rule’ movement. The designer recently created a t-shirt, in partnership with Step Up Women’s Network, that embodies her views.
“We’re responsible for our life, but we can [live] it in a really beautiful way; we can design it,” says Roy. The celebrity mom goes on to explain the motivation behind her shirt that features the American flag and the phrase, ‘Self Rule’ at its center.
“The flag represents strength,” shares the star. “Sometimes we feel like we’re not part of anything. In this country, we’re all part of America and what it stands for: freedom.”
Ava, Rachel’s oldest daughter, has given much support to her mom and the ‘Self Rule’ movement by modeling the t-shirt on Instagram. The teen more than likely influenced the design of the shirt as Rachel has told media on several occasions that her daughters are her inspiration.
“Having daughters has made me a better woman,” said the designer during one interview. “I look at what Ava looks at when she goes shopping, and I get quick feedback from a 100% honest source.”
Ava and her younger sister Tallulah are Rachel Roy’s children with ex-husband Damon Dash. You can expect to see more ‘Self Rule’ designs in the fashion sphere in coming months.
