Leah and Devon Still will be two honorees at Dick Vitale’s V Foundation Gala next month. The ESPN broadcaster announced plans to honor the NFL star and his daughter via social media earlier this month.
“Lauren Hill’s parents and coach will join us @ Gala May 15,” tweeted Dick. “Leah and her Dad Devon Still will be honored,” added the broadcaster.
It was just a few weeks ago that Lauren Hill, a celebrated college athlete who inspired many with her resilient spirit, passed away due to complications caused by cancer. Devon wrote a touching tribute to the young adult after her death. “Lauren never let this terrible disease define her,” shared Devon with Instagram fans. “She didn’t let it control whether she lived out her dream of playing college ball and she fought to live pass what doctors originally told her she would. Lauren left her mark on this world by showing people what it really meant to NEVER GIVE UP.”
Leah certainly knows about determination, since she has battled stage four cancer that officially went into remission on March 25, 2015. “Today we received news from Leah’s oncologist that her cancer, stage four neuroblastoma, is officially in REMISSION,” exclaimed Devon last month. “After 296 days of day dreaming about what it would feel like to hear the doctors say my daughter is in remission, I finally know the feeling.” Still also shared a picture of his daughter giving the camera a fist pump.
Leah is Devon’s only child. She will celebrate her fifth birthday in coming weeks.
