Phaedra Parks may not be living the American dream that she envisioned but she is managing to move forward after her estranged husband, Apollo Nida, was sentenced to eight years in prison. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star recently sat down with Steve Harvey to talk about her life as a single parent.
“Like many women I had this ideal picture of the American dream and I thought I was actually living it,” said Phaedra. She went on to tell Steve that Apollo’s arrest and conviction “was like death of a dream because I thought that I had married someone that I thought I was going to fill this incredible life with. I’ve got two beautiful kids and this pretty much ended it all very abruptly.”
Phaedra continued, “I think that people go through things all the time and they handle it differently and I think I’ve handled it the best way that I knew how. I’ve tried to handle it in a way that my sons could be proud of me, but also hopefully I could show to other women when you have very hard situations you can still be a lady and maintain a sense of dignity.”
The Reality TV star had the support of her mother during her appearance. Phaedra’s mom sat front row and center as her daughter opened up about the many challenges that have come her way. “This is real life,” Phaedra said. “I’m a mother. I have feelings like everyone else. I have these two great boys that I’m trying to raise into healthy strong men. This is not what I signed up for.”
Phaedra admitted that she has not taken the kids to see their father in a recent finale clip of Real Housewives of Atlanta. “I’m not sure when we will visit Apollo because Kentucky is not a hop skip and jump away from Atlanta,” said the star.
Apollo was sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of fraud and a number of other federal offenses. He and Phaedra have two sons, Ayden and Dylan, together.
