Diezel Braxton-Lewis was diagnosed with autism at the tender age of 3-years-old. While many believed that the verdict would prevent the youngster from flourishing, Toni Braxton tells Morning Express that her son is thriving as a 12-year-old.
“[He] is a typical peer,” says the ‘Un-Break My Heart’ singer. “He wants to be like Denzel Washington. And now Anthony Anderson is his new guy. So he’s excited about his acting debut.”
While many think that children with autism are incapable of learning, Toni tells media that such conception is “not true. They learn differently, and you find [that] a lot of kids are brilliant.”
Although her son has managed to disprove the masses with his knowledge and incredible personality, Toni still battles with a bit of guilt. “I think as a parent, you always think: ‘Was there something I could have done differently?’ But what I’ve come to understand, through my friends at Autism Speaks, is there’s nothing wrong with our babies, and there’s nothing you’ve done or could have done differently; it’s just what the situation is.”
Toni Braxton has two kids, Diezel and Denim, with ex-husband Keri Lewis.
