On Monday, January 24, comedian Wayne Brady had the distinction of hosting the BET Honors for the second time. On his arm was his no. 1 girl — his daughter, Maile, who will be 12 on February 3.
Last year, Wayne sat down with Wendy Williams on the set of her talk show before the 2014 ceremony, not only to gab about recent celeb news, but to discuss his views on raising Maile as a single dad. He and Maile’s mother have been divorced for a while now, but Wayne insists that it would be an “understatement” to refer to her as his “best friend in the world.” Candidly, he admitted that the split was his fault and joked that “men are not the brightest.” But now in his forties, he told Wendy he does finally feel like a man, knows how to treat a lady, and is happily raising one.
When it comes to dating, the TV personality said that he has learned that a six-month minimum is the required time frame to bring someone into your child’s life. That way you can be confident that, “it’s real, it’s gonna stick — that shows I have respect for [Maile].”
Wendy threw up a photo of Wayne and Maile on “date night”; he took her out for a special father-daughter Valentine’s Day. The comedian couldn’t help but note how frightening it is that his little girl is already becoming a woman. “She has a booty!” he exclaimed. However, he also pointed out that she is a very “savvy” young lady who “knows right from wrong”.
