Amandla Sternberg may no longer be in The Hunger Games films, but she certainly continues to take on exciting and thoughtful projects. Currently, she is working with Stranger Comics head honcho on an new project that will focused on The Untamed character, Niobe.
Niobe Ayutami is a unique little girl — Half elf, half wild elf — and one of the many dark and mysterious creatures that inhabits the world of The Untamed. Within the epic fantasy tale, Niobe is known as a Harbinger of Truth, with long matted hair and mesmerizing eyes. She is courageous and powerful, and may be the only one who can bind the two nations.
Creator Sebastian A. Jones, who also heads Garcelle Beauvais’ I Am children’s book series, told Bleeding Cool that Amandla is “fantastic to work with.” He praised his young talented partner for her “huge imagination, big brain, a real young Renaissance lady.” Sebastian added that she is “just super creative,” citing the many instruments she plays, as well. Together, he and Amandala are developing a prose that will be the first in the series.
On January 19, Amandla and Sebastian will appear at the Black Comix Art Festival, where they will discuss the upcoming writing project, #Niobe. The festival will be held in San Francisco, City View at Metreon 135, 1:30pm. The event is the first of its kind, in conjunction with the Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations. It is a free, kid-friendly, expo meant to recognize the creativity and achievements of African Americans in the comic arts and popular visual culture.
