Many working moms have difficulty with finding a balance between career aspirations and responsibilities as a parent, but not Jourdan Dunn. The actress tells the Vogue that her son keeps her grounded.
“I love that one day I am doing this (modeling) and then I go home to my reality: getting Riley ready for school, doing his reading with him, taking him to the park,” says the star. “For some in this industry their life is their work. The other girls didn’t understand in the beginning why I didn’t want to go out all the time.”
In addition to being an active toddler, Riley is also one who battles with sickle-cell anemia. “The first time Riley had a crisis, I was working in New York and due to travel to Puerto Rico,” shares Dunn with Vogue. “[My] mum was amazing and reassured me he was in the best hands and that I should keep working.”
In many ways, Jourdan’s mom has been the driving force behind her success on the runway and as a parent. “[She and Riley] are so close I was kind of jealous of their relationship in the beginning. But it works for me,” explains the star. Miss Dunn adds, “You can find the balance of being a working mother, but I couldn’t do it without my mum. She is the one who allowed me to go and do my thing.”
