After being asked to be the face of Madonna’s Material Girl fashion line back in the fall of 2014, Zendaya admitted she was thrilled to even be known by the pop icon. She gushed, “First of all Madonna knows who I am, check. Bucket list, I’m over. That’s all I need.” The excitement continues with her latest campaign, shot in a record store, showcasing the line’s fusion of vintage, edgy, authentic.
“Shooting this campaign was so much fun!” Zendaya exclaimed. “I love the new Material Girl collection; it’s all about bold pieces that you can mix and match.” Indeed, Zendaya’s own style has long been noted as having its own edge, brought to light now more than ever with this new line, designed by Madonna herself, alongside her 18-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Zendaya added, “All of the looks are girly with a little bit of tough edge to it, very much like my own style!”
In a backstage video of the spring 2015 campaign shoot, the young star discussed her love of working with Madonna and her daughter. “I love seeing the different influences,” she noted, “it has their own personal essence.” She was also excited to be shooting in a record store, as the young artist is, of course, a big fan of music.
“I think Madonna is one of the biggest influences the world has ever seen. She’s not afraid to try anything.”
Aside from modelling for one her favourite icons, Zendaya is also busy with her own television work. This month K.C. Undercover will finally premier, a new Disney sitcom for which Zendaya is both the star and a producer.
