It’s hard to believe that Zendaya Coleman was once an introvert person, but she was. The young star tells Teen Vogue that she has long wanted to act, but hasn’t always had the courage to take the stage.
“When I was younger, my parents had to go to a seminar about shy kids,” says Zendaya of her bashfulness. It wasn’t until after she turned 8-years-old that she truly recognized her calling for entertainment and lost the timidity.
“I was that weird 8-year-old who was into Shakespeare,” explains Coleman. The actress also tells Teen Vogue that her first theatrical performance was in a production of James and the Giant Peach that featured other kids her age. “I played the Silkworm, which means I didn’t have any lines—I might have said, ‘James, look!’ or something like that. But I was up there the whole time, reacting to things,” says Coleman.
Zendaya will soon star in her second series called ‘K.C. Undercover.’ Although she is adored by young girls throughout the nation, Miss Coleman is hoping to broaden her brand to teens and young adults. “A lot of college students watch the Disney Channel in their dorms, actually,” says the young star.
You can catch Zendaya in all of her confidence when the February issue of Teen Vogue hits newsstands on January 13, 2015.
