Mo’ne Davis continues to steal headlines for her baseball records. Teen Vogue recently nabbed an exclusive with the Little Leaguer in which she got a little more personal.
Up until now, all the buzz has been about her 70mph throw and her fast-track to becoming a sports legend. In the magazine’s November issue though, there is a lot more to learn about this superstar. The honor student who aspires to be a point guard for U Conn’s basketball team stated that while the public might be making a big deal out of her, on the diamond she is just one of the team. “[My teammates] just let me be myself,” she added. So who it Mo’ne Davis? What is she like when she isn’t throwing a fastball?
“Seeing my pitching, you’d think I’m a serious person,” she said, “But I am actually kind of goofy, I like to laugh!” Her music collection includes Beyonce and Adriana Grande, and Zendaya is her style icon, when she isn’t rocking her uniform for a game or photo-shoot, that is.
Still, Mo’ne recognizes that as an icon for many young girls herself, she has a responsibility. She said, “other kids are watching what I do,” and knowing that is not something she takes lightly. “If I can inspire girls to reach their goals, then I’m happy.” The 13-year-old is certainly an inspiration, not only for her game skills and sportsmanship, but for her positive attitude as well.
“Some say I should play softball, since I’m a girl but that doesn’t bother me.” In fact, Mo’ne is proud to say she pitches like a girl, and now others can be too.
