Every mother wants their children to be lively and healthy, and Jourdan Dunn is no different. The fashion model tells Vogue that she was shocked to learn of her son’s battle with Sickle Cell Anemia, despite being aware of the great possibility of Riley developing the disease.
“I knew there was a possibility that I was carrying a sickle cell baby because both his dad and I have the trait. But of course, I always had it in my head, ‘No, not my baby. That’s not going to happen to me,'” explains the star.
Utter shock came over Jourdan upon learning of her son’s diagnosis. Such feeling was then replaced by immense pressure. “I was so overwhelmed by it all. Before a model, I am a mother,” says the star. She adds, “Now, I do my job for Riley.”
Jourdan has supported several organizations that spread awareness about Sickle Cell since her son was diagnosed. She also takes every opportunity to share her story with mothers of children who are also battling with the illness. Riley is Jourdan’s only child.
