Paul George is not a deadbeat dad, according to his lawyer who came to his defense earlier this week. A judge accused the NBA player of trying to dodge his responsibilities as a parent even after a paternity test proved that he is the father of former stripper Daniela Rajic’s child.

“Even though it is all but certain that [George] is the father of the 5-month-old baby girl at the center of this case,” wrote Justice Matthew Cooper. “He has gone to every length imaginable to avoid taking responsibility for his actions.”

Although the judge accused Paul’s request to get his case transferred to another court as an attempt to shirk his obligations, the star athlete’s lawyer told media that his client is not a deadbeat. “Paul is a good kid and he’s far away from being a deadbeat dad,” said C. Anthony Mulrain. “What deadbeat dads do is run away from their responsibilities. [George] is trying to embrace them.”

Paul George was sued by Daniela for a paternity test shortly after her daughter was born in May. The NBA player, at the time, announced his plans to seek full custody of the little one if the results proved that he was her father.
