Instant Mom is an instant hit for kids and moms alike. The sitcom, starring Tia Mowrey-Hardrict premiered on Nick at Nite last September, with season two premiering October 2 of this year. The show has been such a success that a third season of 20 episodes has already beed ordered!
Part of the Nick at Nite program line-up, Instant Mom is featured alongside other sitcoms that target whole family viewing. But the series is also suitable adult viewing, airing much later as part of the NickMom line-up (10pm-2am), as well.
Tia portrays Stephanie, a former party girl whose marriage to the more traditional father of three, Charlie (Michael Boatman), has her thrown into motherhood with zero experience. The laughs derive from watching her adapt to her new lifestyle, and the lighthearted address of the day-to-day challenges of the blended family. Stephanie also keeps her mother (Sheryl Lee Ralph) nearby as she tries to learn what being a mother really is – without completely losing her fun-loving, irresponsible, side. Charlie’s children are played by Sydney park, Tylen Jacob Williams, and Damarr Calhoun.
In real life, however, Tia is a loving mother of one. Her son, Cree, was born in the summer of 2011 after her pregnancy was documented on the Style Network’s Tia & Tamera. Twins Tia and Tamera have been working together their whole lives, first rising to fame in the 1990s on their sitcom, Sister, Sister. Both mothers now, the sisters have been active mom-topic voices on the internet, and even created the product Milky, a natural supplement to encourage the development of breast-milk in new moms. Currently, the sisters are working on a series of supernatural Middle-Grade books, entitled Twintuition. Tia has also been nominated for two NAACP Image Awards for her work on The Game.
