Malinda Williams is one of four stars in the highly anticipated Girlfriends Getaway that is set to premiere soon on TV One. The actress recently sat down for an exclusive discussion with Madam Noire in which she talked about her character who is married with children and ready for change.
“My character is the one that you are going to relate to if you are a mother, if you have more than one child, you’ve been married for more than five years, and you are over it,” said Malinda of her portrayal of Camille in the original movie.
Camille is one of the lively characters who does not get kidnapped during Vicky’s (Garcelle Beauvais) extreme birthday celebration in Trinidad. She and the other women must help their friend Sophie (Terri Vaughn) escape the grasp of criminals who have abducted and held her for ransom.
Although she has never been held captive by dangerous culprits, Malinda has been challenged to broaden her horizons when it comes to co-parenting her son. “Mekhi Phifer is not the easiest person to keep the peace with,” said the star of her ex-husband. “It takes two people in a relationship, whether you are having a marriage or whether you have experienced divorce and are co-parenting. It takes two people who agree that they don’t want to be in conflict in order to work through something.”
The actress further explained, “Having been married and divorced, there are tons of things that you learn about love. I think the first thing that you learn, or the biggest lesson I’ve learned, is that love is love.”
You can tune into Girlfriends Getaway when it debuts on August 30, 2014. Malinda Williams has one son, Omikaye, with Mekhi Phifer.
