We recently got the privilege of attending a Q&A media session with Young Money Artist, Reginae Carter. The event took place on August 19th, at the London Hotel in NYC, where Reginae was accompanied by her mother. After posing for pics, the young entrepreneur, all dressed in black, was ushered into a sitting area where we got to bombard her with questions.
When it comes to balancing school and her career, Reginae admitted that getting through everything takes time. Describing it as a juggling act, the young star noted that it was something that she has been used to for a while. She had been home-schooled in the past, but going into high school this year she found that there were some major benefits. “The schedule’s great”, she said, “I love it.”
And as a bonus, her unique lifestyle and experiences were the inspiration for her first single, “Mind Goin’ Crazy,” which debuted this summer. She explained that the song “goes back to my everyday life” and the juggling-act that it is. The song was developed between Reginae and her producer, whom she approached with all of her ideas for it.
But balancing school, music, and a fashion line seems less overwhelming when you’ve grown up in the spotlight with ambitious parents to guide you through. Being the eldest daughter of Lil’ Wayne and former wife Toya Wright means that she always has knowledgable loved ones to turn to for advice. Dealing with the ups and downs of celebrity, Reginae said her parents taught her to “have tough skin” and to “follow her dreams.”
But even with a tough skin, Reginae admitted that she is rather sensitive.”I have a real problem with wearing my feeling on my shoulders. I’m real sensitive.”
