Jillian Michaels and Lukensia were two of many celebrities to rise to the challenge this past weekend. The fitness guru and her little one stopped by the Kickball For A Home event hosted by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in Los Angeles on Saturday (August 16). Jillian and Lukensia brought lots of energy to the red carpet as they supported a worthy cause.
The Dave Thomas foundation has been providing support for foster care for several years. The organization answers frequently answered questions about the adoption process and provides support to new parents.
Jillian Michaels knows about fostering a child as she adopted Lukensia out of Haiti in 2012. Although she strives to teach her daughter good nutrition, Michaels does not force Lukensia to become a health guru like herself.
“You can hide spinach in their brownies and whatever, but at the end of the day I have found it to be totally unnecessary,” says the star. “I just had a very candid conversation with my 3-year-old. I find something she aspires to, whether it’s Katy Perry or Beyoncé or Elsa from ‘Frozen.’ I say, ‘For Elsa to use her super powers, she’s got to eat some spinach and some kale and some broccoli, but not all the time. You know how Katy Perry roars like that? Well, she eats kale.’ By showing your kids that this is going to help them be what they want to be or do what they want to do, it becomes enjoyable for them. It’s not about depriving them.”
