Usher does not regret getting married. It may not have worked out, but he learned a lot, and has his sons by his side. The singer has said that the boys are his most “prized possession”. “They are my greatest investment,” he added “it’s everything.”
Of his failed marriage, Usher spoke with catharsis. “Most people probably think I regret it because I ended up getting divorced, but it helped me learn that sometimes I think I know more than I actually do,” he admitted.
Similarly, his ex-wife, Tameka Foster, has also spoken about the divorce in thoughtful terms. She said, “I made a lot of mistakes. He always told me, ‘You gotta drink a lot of milk.’ You know, you gotta toughen up because I wasn’t ready for the scrutiny. And then to just hear the things people would say about me, it hurt me a lot. And I think I nagged him as a result of what I was going through.”
Last year, the star was awarded full custody of the children, Usher Jr. (6) and Naviyd (5), after a rough court battle against their mother. The Voice judge also revealed that one of his sons has recently been diagnosed with type-1 diabetes. “Sometimes you’re looking at me and we’re off camera, and I’m online looking at numbers, trying to make sure he’s eating properly. It’s crazy,” he said.
After becoming a young star himself, Usher has grown into a very successful man at multiple levels of the entertainment business, conquering everything from performing, to producing, and even acting. Now, still only 35, he seems to be triumphing as a father too.
