Carmelo Anthony is a man of his roots, and is never too busy to give back.
“A Very Melo Weekend” began 5 years ago. It is an entire weekend dedicated to charity for Puerta Rico, the birthplace of Carmelo’s father. Each year, he travels there and spends time getting to know they young fans, donates basketball courts, and hosts multiple charity events such as golf tournaments and softball matches.
This year, the NY Knicks star had his 7 year old son, Kiyan, by his side on the softball diamond. It seems he’ll be passing on his do-gooder genes!
The fundraising events are supported by $4000-4500 tickets for access to all of the weekends activities, including a welcome dinner, exclusive parties, and a room at the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort.
Kiyan’s mother is Carmelo’s wife, La La Anthony, and the couple stars in the reality series, La La’s Full Court Life. The basketball star has always been very dedicated to his philanthropy, and started the Carmelo Anthony Foundation as a vehicle for many charitable events. His main focus is to improve educational and recreational opportunities for children and families. For more information, visit his Foundation site.
