Nia Long was both proud and uneasy when her son had the opportunity to meet the president of the United States for the first time. The actress recounts her and eldest son Massai’s encounter with President and First Lady Obama a few months back.
“I’ve met them before. I’m always speechless,” says Nia to Access Hollywood. “At one point Barack said to Massai, ‘Wow, you’re a handsome young man.’ And [Massai] said, ‘Thank You.’ And [the President] says, ‘Are you doing well in school?’ And [Massai] said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Not ‘Yeah,’ you say ‘Yes.’ And Barack was like, ‘Not it’s okay. ‘Yeah’ is cool.’ I said, ‘It is not cool.'”
Long also recounts her interaction with the First Lady by telling Access that Mrs. Obama is completely down to earth. “Michelle is so elegant and beautiful,” says the star. “She’s just like superhuman to me. And she was just kind and lovely and, you know, happy to have us. I was at loss for words.”
Nia visited the White House in May after being invited to attend a dinner hosted by the President and First Lady. Massai was definitely dressed to impress as he accompanied his mom as her date for the evening. Nia Long has two kids.
