Star of the T.V. series Rogue, Thandie Newton, revealed on the Today Show that she prefers to give birth at home.
Just a couple of months ago she welcomed to the world her first son Booker, but the mother of 3 also has two daughters. All the children were delivered in the actress’s home with the same midwife, and Booker was actually birthed on her bathroom floor.
“I had just associated hospital with being ill, and I felt beautiful and healthy and wonderful when I was pregnant, and being at home is the place I felt most relaxed and comfortable,” the new mom explained to the Today show.
While many people choose to give birth in a medical institution for safety reasons, the British star pointed out that for her home birth “feels normal”, and that “there was a time when everybody had their babies at home and it wasn’t such a big deal.”
Her three children have been fathered by the actress’s husband of 16 years, writer/director Ol Parker, but with two excited big sisters, little Booker seems to be lucky enough to have three ladies taking care of him. Thandie joked, “I think he thinks he’s got three mummies. He’s got a 13-year-old, a nine-year-old and a (cough cough) 27-year-old.”
This busy mommy’s T.V. show will be back next week for its second season, which premiers May 28th.
