Nia Long had a date at the White House with one of her favorite guys last week. The actress took her eldest son, Massai, to Capitol Hill on Friday (May 2) to meet with the President and First Lady for a Correspondents’ dinner.
Massai was dressed in formal wear, having a bow tie and suspenders to complete his outfit. “The White House date,” tweeted Long. “Proud Mommy!!!!”
The actress has much to be proud of when looking at her teen son. Massai managed to secure his own gig in the Single Mom’s Club a few months ago, after mom dropped his name in Tyler Perry’s ear. “I asked [Tyler], ‘So who’s playing my son in the film?’ And he goes, ‘Well I don’t know. We’ll probably get a kid local in Atlanta.’ And I said, ‘Well you know my son is the same age as the character.’ He goes, ‘Really? I didn’t realize that.’ And I said ‘Yeah,'” explained Long.
“I said, ‘Can he audition for you?’ And he goes, ‘If you think he can do it, it’s fine.’ I said, ‘No, no, no, no. I’m not going to be looking like a fool if I get him there and he’s terrible. Let’s make him audition.’ Because I knew in my heart he could do it. But I wanted him to go through the process of earning something and also to understand what I do, and how we have to really work hard to get what we have.” After auditioning, like any other actor in Hollywood, Massai was given the part of Nia’s son in the film. The budding star did a superb job of acting as the troubled child, giving just enough emotion at the beginning of the film to make viewers believe that he truly preferred his father over mom.
